SLSG Teams Advance in USYS Midwest Regionals

 

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – There were seven St. Louis Scott Gallagher teams competing in the United States Youth Soccer (USYS) Regionals this past weekend with three of the teams qualifying for the semifinals of the competition which will take place tomorrow, June 25th in Saginaw, Michigan.

 

 

Two SLSG MO Elite Boys teams and one SLSG MO Elite Girls team have advanced to the semifinals of the USYS Midwest Regionals after advancing in group play. The top team from each group advance to the semifinals and each group consists of four teams that play each other once.

 

 

The SLSG MO Elite 2004 Boys advanced with a 2-0-1 record after defeating Sporting BV Pre-Academy (KS) and Team Challenger FC Black (OH) and drawing 1-1 against Michigan Jaguars Green (MI). The team is coached by Tim Amlong and will now face the Chicago Fire Juniors City 2004s in the U15 Regional Semifinals at 8:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

 

 

“The 2004 Boys have bought in and performing at a high level in the Midwest Regional,” said Amlong. “Being healthy for the first time all year has helped as well. In a must-win situation to advance against a talented Team Challenger (OH), our kids were relentless and responded well to our game plan and performed it flawlessly. It’s an exciting time for our boys right now and we’re super proud of all the players and we’re looking forward to tomorrow against the Chicago Fire [Juniors].”

 

 

The SLSG MO Elite 2002 Boys advance with a perfect 3-0-0 record after wins against SC Waukesha Blue (WI), Fort Wayne United FC B Academy (IN), and DASC Black (SD). The team is coached Andy Cooper and will face Galaxy 2002 Blue (IL) in the U17 Regional Semifinals at 8:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

 

 

“The 2002 Boys have played well and deserve to be where they are,” said Cooper. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to right some wrongs against the Galaxy tomorrow. We are prepared, healthy, and excited!”

 

 

The lone SLSG girls team to advance is the SLSG MO Elite 2004 group coached by Shaunna Brandt. The team won their group with a 2-1-0 record by defeating Libertyville FC 1974 (IL) and KCSG Academy (KS) even with a loss on the first day to Tonka Fusion Elite (MN). They will face SC Waukesha 2004 Blue in the U15 Regional Semifinals at 8:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
