Congratulations to SLSG Metro 98/99 ECNL player, Ambere Barnett (Rockport, Indiana), who was selected to attend the 2013 ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interrgional event (Nov 22-29) in Boca Raton, FL. Ambere was one of the 18 players selected to represent Region II, which is comprised of the 14 midwestern states, in competition against Region I (Northeast), Region III (Southeast) and Region IV (western US).
Competing at the highest level is nothing new to Barnett who earlier this year was selected to attend the Olympic Development National Training Camp in Phoenix, Arizona and was subsequently asked to travel with Region II to Costa Rica for an international event where she competed against women’s professional teams as well as the U17 Costa Rica Women’s National team. In 2012, Barnett was 1 of 53 players born in 1999 and 1998 who attended the National Nike ID 2 Camp in Hartford, Connecticut.
Barnett, a U14, plays for the SLSG Metro U15 ECNL team and according to head coach, Shawn Hewitt. “We are very pleased to be working with Ambere and her family. Her level of commitment, sacrifice, and attention to the details is what allows her these accomplishments and honors. Having a player of this caliber around makes everyone involved better. She has had a great start here with SLSG Metro and I am looking forward to see how she progresses over the next several years.”
Ambere will return to Florida later this month when she travels with the U15 ECNL team to the Elite Clubs National League College Showcase in Sanford, Florida where she will have the opportunity to compete against some of the top club players from across the country in front of hundreds of the nations top college programs.
